A history as individual as Lamu itself...

Kijani began life as 3  separate properties, they were combined in the early 80’s to create a small guesthouse. But as the years went by and the popularity of Lamu island grew so did Kijani and in 1989 a 10 room hotel was opened.

Lovingly built using the best traditional swahili craftsmanship

The buildings of Kijani showcase the best features of Swahili architecture and design, while traditional Swahili furniture is displayed throughout the hotel. Each piece has been lovingly hand-carved from locally sourced materials. While showcasing the best local craftsmanship they also offer a perfect spot for an afternoon nap on your very own breezy terrace.
